- What's the substrate? Smooth metal, glass, primed paint, or treated plastic → VHB 5952 or 4941. Porous, textured, or low-energy plastic → stop and address the surface first, because no tape will fix bad prep.
- Will this face outdoor UV, salt, or extreme temperatures? Yes → 4941. Mostly indoor or mild exposure → 5952 is enough.
- What happens if it falls? If the answer is “injury” or “expensive rework”, use bolts or the manufacturer's specified hardware. Tape—even VHB—is not a substitute for load-bearing assembly.
